Plooto is a Canada-based fintech company helping small and mid-sized businesses manage payments, cash flow, and financial decisions with confidence. The company has recently closed a funding round and is scaling its finance function. You will join a three-person strategic finance team as a senior individual contributor reporting to the Senior Director of Finance. This is a partnering role embedded with GTM, Product, and other business teams—you'll be in the room when decisions are framed, not summarizing them afterward. Your core responsibilities: • Own driver-based financial models end-to-end for the business areas you support (initially GTM subscriber forecasting and Product revenue/TPV forecasting by product line and payment rail). As the company grows, this may extend to Payments Strategy, Risk, and Operations. • Embed with business teams to challenge assumptions, frame tradeoffs, and bring ROI analysis to decisions before they're made—not after. • Move beyond reporting numbers to explaining why metrics moved, whether that's good or bad, and recommending action. When a metric shifts, your job is to investigate the cause, assess whether it's a deliberate test or a drift, and advise leadership. • Build and maintain live data pipelines using SQL against Databricks, keeping models refreshing on live data rather than manual pulls. • Connect function-level models to the company plan so each area rolls cleanly into the central budget, creating one coherent operating plan rather than siloed forecasts. • Help modernize planning infrastructure—deciding whether the company needs dedicated FP&A tooling, automation improvements, or architectural changes. You'll work with the Senior Director to build systems that scale through better infrastructure and AI leverage rather than headcount. • Distill complex analysis into crisp stories for executive and board audiences. • Partner with the Senior Financial Analyst (who owns the core FP&A engine, company model, actuals, and investor reporting) to keep forecasting, budgeting, and reporting coherent. Success in year one means: models rebuilt on clear drivers with sensitivities and scenarios leadership actually uses; finance embedded early in product and GTM decisions; and the ability to trace what specific initiatives contribute against a base case. The role is currently a senior IC position with no direct reports. However, if the company adds analysts, this person would oversee them. Management is a live possibility, but the path to it is making the function work better, not bigger. You'll work closely with the CFO and have exposure to the CEO; your work feeds directly into board and investor reporting. The company is deliberately open about the scope: it hasn't fully defined what finance support for all teams looks like yet, and doesn't expect one person to cover everything at once. Part of this job is helping decide where finance partnership earns the most and saying no when something should wait. REQUIREMENTS: • 7+ years in strategic finance, FP&A, or business analytics, ideally in fintech, SaaS, or another recurring-revenue business. • Deep knowledge of payments and transaction economics: take rate, transaction mix across rails, cost per transaction, and how volume converts to revenue. This is core to Plooto's business model. • Hands-on expertise with SaaS metrics in practice: ARR, MRR, churn, CAC, payback, LTV, and the judgment to know when a movement matters. • Hands-on SQL against a data warehouse (Databricks or similar) wired into Excel, building live-refresh workflows rather than static exports. • Advanced Excel and driver-based modeling skills, with the ability to rebuild models as the business and your understanding evolve. • Ability to reason about cause, not just correlation—you can distinguish a deliberate test from a drift, ask what the hypothesis was, and judge whether a result is real. • Exceptional communication: you can make complex analysis simple and persuasive for technical and non-technical audiences, and hold your own with business leaders. • A partnering instinct and the judgment to prioritize. With fluid scope and high inbound demand, you'll need to decide what earns your time and say no clearly. • Comfort using AI tools to automate analytical workflows and work faster. • Experience helping select or implement FP&A planning tooling (preferred).
