Salary: USD 206,000 - 258,000 / annual
Join Xero's Accounting Core Team as a Staff Engineer focused on solving large-scale engineering problems and influencing platform architecture. You will move beyond feature delivery to refactor complex monolithic systems into distributed, scalable architectures that serve millions of global users.
In this role, you'll have autonomy to make major code design decisions and contribute to global engineering standards. You'll balance technical excellence with mentorship, coaching other engineers through complex technical challenges and helping them grow their skills.
The team operates in a collaborative environment where engineers, product owners, and designers work together using agile practices. You'll participate in continuous learning through code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions, maintaining a high bar for technical craft.
Key focus areas include modernizing systems through refactoring, enhancing developer experience via CI/CD maturation and TDD practices, and building a diverse tech stack including C#, .NET, React, AWS, and Kubernetes. You'll develop and implement technical solution designs aligned with long-term engineering frameworks.
You bring proven experience delivering and operating complex, large-scale distributed systems with strong fundamentals and the ability to ramp quickly across adjacent technologies. You possess a growth mindset, passion for sharing technical knowledge, and deep care for technical excellence. Experience with modern engineering practices like automated testing, refactoring, and agile delivery is essential. You enjoy mentoring and helping peers grow through supportive coaching.
This remote position is based in Washington State to align with Pacific time zone collaboration with teams in Australia and New Zealand. You'll have flexibility to balance remote focus with in-person connection during team alignment days and local hub events. No visa sponsorship available.
