Glydways is building a next-generation autonomous transit network—a carbon-neutral, on-demand public mobility system operating 24/7 on dedicated guideways. The company is reimagining urban transit to be accessible, affordable, and sustainable.
As Staff Systems Engineer for the Glydways Automated Transit Network (GATN), you will be the technical owner for how new features and system changes integrate and operate on the guideway. This is a hands-on role bridging product vision and engineering execution across autonomy, vehicle hardware, safety, infrastructure, and operations.
Key responsibilities:
• Design and define requirements for novel features required of the public transit system, then demonstrate them on track.
• Own feature landing for GATN: plan and execute integration of new system capabilities (reduced headways, fail-operational behaviors, availability targets, dispatch behaviors, new ATP functions).
• Define and run integration scenarios: design Tier 2+ integration tests that exercise safety functions, throughput behaviors, and operational workflows across vehicles, wayside, and dispatch/operations control center.
• Judge the health of safety functions (separation assurance, route obstruction, emergency stop behaviors) using logs, metrics, and on-track behavior; recommend parameter or design changes.
• Improve regression and mileage test suites that gate releases, including test selection, ordering, and coverage criteria.
• Drive release readiness: partner with Systems Engineering, Autonomy, Vehicle SI, and Operations to define entry/exit criteria for on-track testing, release candidates, and feature go-live decisions.
• Work hands-on at the track (GDF2 and project sites), in logs and dashboards, and in tools to turn requirements into concrete scenarios and decisions.
You will work in a multi-team environment integrating complex hardware and software systems. The role is ideal for someone who has shipped complex integrated systems, enjoys integration and test work, and is comfortable driving issues to closure in a fast-moving environment. Primary location is Richmond, CA; 3-4 days/week on-site preferred, but remote considered for the right candidate.
