Salary: USD 212,000 - 234,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks an experienced Staff Structural Analyst to lead spacecraft structural development from concept through deployment. This role owns the full lifecycle of structures and optical payloads, spanning conceptual design, detailed finite element modeling, dynamic analysis, structural testing, and post-test correlation.
Key responsibilities include performing linear and nonlinear static analyses, modal and frequency response analyses, dynamic environment definition, and model correlation to test data. You will scope and execute mechanical/structural validation test plans, establish engineering standards and tools for the team, and drive risk-informed design decisions balancing rapid capability demonstration with scalable constellation deployment. The role requires defining factors of safety, identifying no-test margins, designing and executing system-level vibration and shock tests, and coordinating with external test venues.
Beyond technical analysis, you will mentor and guide team members as the organization scales, establishing a culture of rigor across mechanical design. You'll work cross-functionally on make-vs-buy decisions, supplier interactions, and opto-mechanical system design. Travel to test sites is occasionally required.
Required qualifications: 10+ years (BS+10 or MS+8) in spacecraft or aerospace structural analysis; BS or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; extensive FEA experience (FEMAP, ANSYS); hands-on structural test design and execution; proficiency in Python, Matlab, Julia, C, C++, Fortran, or similar; exceptional attention to detail and communication skills. Nice-to-have skills include force limiting, opto-mechanical analysis, mechanical design, and electronic instrumentation experience.
The position is hybrid, requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose. Muon Space operates a state-of-the-art Silicon Valley facility optimized for rapid spacecraft manufacturing and payload integration, serving climate monitoring and national security missions.
