Pivotal Health is building an AI-driven platform that helps healthcare providers navigate complex reimbursement workflows, dispute underpaid claims, and recover entitled reimbursement without adding administrative burden.
You'll own the technical direction of the product platform—the foundational layer that other product teams build on. This includes identity and access (SSO, invitations, sessions), the organization and tenancy model, shared services and APIs, and developer experience tooling. The platform scope expands as product teams identify capabilities that should be built once: role-based access control, email infrastructure, production paths for ML models, and data ingress are next priorities.
This is a high-ownership, high-autonomy role on a team still defining itself. You'll have direct input on how the platform and team approach hard problems. Architecture, ownership boundaries, and integration patterns are still being worked out, so you'll operate without a playbook and bring strong technical judgment to ambiguous situations.
You'll be a hands-on technical leader: writing production code, leading design reviews, and setting standards for other engineers. The systems you own will be depended on by multiple teams. You'll drive architectural decisions across identity, tenancy, shared services, and developer experience. You'll design composable abstractions and well-defined interfaces so product teams can extend the platform without forking or waiting on you. You'll translate ambiguous requirements into executable plans, establish patterns that improve quality and reliability, and mentor senior and mid-level engineers.
You bring 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend depth and full-stack range. You have a track record owning architectural decisions on complex production systems that multiple teams rely on. You're proficient in Python (or can demonstrate strong backend depth in a Python interview) and have hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native systems, preferably GCP. You understand relational data modeling and schema evolution in high-stakes environments. You judge systems by usefulness and correctness, have strong product instincts, and engage in customer discovery. You're self-directed, communicative, comfortable in greenfield environments, and lead by doing the work and making the case. You're low-ego, collaborative, direct, and more interested in shipping great work than being right.
Extra credit: authorization models (RBAC, ABAC, policy engines) at production scale, internal developer platforms or shared SDKs adopted by multiple teams, shaping how teams use AI tooling in engineering workflows, TypeScript and React proficiency.
