As a Staff Software Engineer focused on Developer Experience, you will lead team-level technical strategy and execution on multi-quarter time horizons. Your responsibilities include using AI to build, optimize, and maintain software systems that analyze billions of medical records to rank healthcare providers across the country. You will uplevel engineers across the organization by raising the technical bar, collaborate across disciplines to understand the healthcare domain, and protect user privacy and security through best practices.
The ideal candidate has 6+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ability to lead teams of engineers and impact technical strategy. You should have a generalist mindset ready to learn new languages, frameworks, and techniques in a fast-paced startup environment. Experience building complex systems using AI coding agents (specifically Claude Code) is required. You must be able to learn quickly, mentor others, and have familiarity with data security and HIPAA compliance.
Garner operates as an AWS + Kubernetes shop and constantly introduces new technologies as system load doubles yearly. The engineering team tackles incredibly hard technical problems for a mission that matters. Technologies include Claude Code, Kubernetes, AWS, Airflow, DBT, Python, TypeScript, React, and Go. The company is headquartered in NYC but this role is fully remote with occasional travel to HQ expected. You'll work on problems at the intersection of AI and systemic healthcare reform with real ownership and autonomy alongside exceptional, mission-driven people.
