Datadog is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead technical evaluation of acquisition and investment opportunities in AI, cloud, and security. This role sits within the Product organization, reporting to the Senior Director of Product Strategy, and serves as a key technical advisor to C-level leadership on M&A strategy. You will own technical due diligence across Datadog's acquisition pipeline, evaluating startup products and technologies from product and architecture perspectives. Key responsibilities include: - Identify strategic acquisition targets by engaging with business leaders, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists in the AI, cloud, and security spaces - Lead comprehensive technical evaluations, including proof-of-concept and sandbox environment setup to stress-test candidate products - Assess technical architecture, identify integration risks, and develop post-acquisition integration roadmaps - Partner with Product and Engineering teams to build consensus on expansion opportunities and valuation - Serve as subject matter expert on technical integration and architecture fit - Create test environments and loads to validate startup claims and assess technical depth - Represent Product and Engineering in initial deal discussions, identifying product fit and synergies - Act as primary contact point for acquired companies and cross-functional Datadog teams (Product, Engineering, Security) on integration, value creation, and architecture questions - Provide regular strategic recommendations to leadership on active deals and opportunities You bring 7+ years of experience in product development, solution architecture, or engineering. You have deep expertise across Datadog's product suite (infrastructure, APM, security, analytics, AI/ML) and broad understanding of cloud technologies. You excel at communicating complex technical assessments to senior leadership, think strategically about technology trends, and work effectively across functions. A BS/MS/PhD in a STEM field or equivalent experience is required.
