ServiceNow's Platform Infrastructure Automation team is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design and build large-scale cloud automation software that manages ServiceNow instances across tens of data centers and thousands of servers globally. You will lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of infrastructure automation solutions using Java, JavaScript, and ServiceNow platforms, with a focus on reliability and performance. In this role, you will partner with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to define requirements and deliver end-to-end cloud platform solutions. You'll build high-quality, scalable, reusable code while driving engineering best practices including architecture reviews, code reviews, and design patterns. A key aspect of this position involves leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve developer productivity, accelerate software delivery, and enhance code quality. You will drive engineering excellence through comprehensive test automation strategies (unit, integration, regression, end-to-end testing) and improve platform reliability through chaos engineering, fault injection, and automated validation frameworks. You'll contribute to designing new platform capabilities while modernizing existing systems, and establish observability and performance practices to ensure system reliability and rapid incident resolution. This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days per week in a ServiceNow office (Kirkland, WA; Santa Clara, CA; or San Diego, CA). The position requires US citizenship or permanent residency and passing a USFedPASS background screening due to federal requirements. Required qualifications: 8+ years of software development in Java or comparable OOP language (or 6+ years with Master's degree, 3+ with PhD). Strong experience with distributed systems, cloud platforms, and infrastructure automation. Proven ability to lead complex technical projects across distributed teams. Deep knowledge of databases, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and modern software delivery practices. Experience integrating AI into development workflows and leveraging AI/ML to enhance products and operations. Familiarity with Kubernetes, AWS/Azure/GCP, and Infrastructure as Code is a plus.
