Xero is seeking a Platform Engineer to lead the technical vision and execution of their Salesforce platform. This is a high-impact individual contributor role partnering with the Engineering Manager to set direction and deliver strategic initiatives that enable multiple engineering teams. Key responsibilities include: - Technical Vision & Strategy: Collaborate with leadership to refine the platform's technical vision, identify concrete execution steps, and break these into granular, executable plans for engineering pods. - Platform Security: Own the cross-cutting security posture, including access control frameworks, Connected Apps governance, vulnerability identification and remediation, and security tooling decisions. - CI/CD & Release Engineering: Own deployment pipelines and release-engineering programs across major release cycles. Champion automation, ensure pipelines meet team needs, and improve developer experience. - Data Governance & Compliance: Manage platform-side data governance, including GDPR data deletion, retention and archival strategies, and compliance standards for dependent pods. - Platform Monitoring & Limits: Maintain and grow observability, proactively manage org limits, manage platform-level production risk, and prevent customer-facing issues. - D360 Pipeline: Own maintenance and growth of the D360 pipeline as it relates to Salesforce and broader platform integration. - AI Operations: Set direction for emerging AI operations, including agent registry, observability, evaluation baselines, and Agentforce agent alignment to shared standards. - Engineering Standards & Enablement: Contribute to Xero's engineering standards and frameworks, working with leadership to apply them across the platform and dependent teams. The ideal candidate brings enterprise-scale Salesforce platform engineering experience with a platform-engineering mindset focused on enabling other teams. You should have depth in Salesforce development, hands-on experience with CI/CD modernization, GitHub, SFDX, and test automation. Experience with distributed systems architecture, platform scaling and hardening, security posture ownership, and AI/agent platforms (Agentforce) is valued. Strong coaching and mentoring skills, servant leadership, and the ability to facilitate cross-team architecture discussions are essential. Based in Melbourne with hybrid flexibility (1 day/week in office, typically Thursday), this role offers the opportunity to shape platform strategy while remaining hands-on and developing engineering capability across multiple disciplines.
