Deepgram is the leading platform for the Voice AI economy, providing real-time APIs for speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS), and production-grade voice agents at scale. The company serves over 200,000 developers and 1,300+ organizations, including Twilio, Cloudflare, Sierra, Vapi, and Daily. Backed by a Series C, Deepgram has processed over 50,000 years of audio and transcribed more than 1 trillion words.
You will join as Staff Sales Engineer, Voice Agent, reporting to the VP of Sales. This is a revenue-carrying technical leadership role focused on driving adoption of Deepgram's Voice Agent platform globally. You will work alongside every Account Executive as the technical lead on voice agent deals, owning the technical win from discovery through production.
Key responsibilities include: leading discovery, technical qualification, architecture and proofs of concept for Voice Agent opportunities; positioning Deepgram's capabilities in customer conversations, particularly around latency, reliability, cost per minute, and production readiness; building and shipping demos, reference agents and integration patterns that AEs and customers can use immediately; carrying a quota for new Voice Agent logos and ARR; creating positioning, competitive battlecards, objection handling and enablement materials for the sales team; translating deal patterns into product requirements; and partnering with CCaaS, telephony and LLM partners on joint solutions.
You will spend most of your time in front of customers, whiteboarding how their telephony stack (SIP trunks, PBX, CCaaS) connects to voice agents and where Deepgram fits. You'll go deep on technical topics including latency, turn-taking, interruption handling, function calling, cost per minute, and build vs. buy decisions. You'll own your pipeline and forecast with discipline.
Deepgram operates with an AI-first mindset. Every team member is expected to actively use and experiment with advanced AI tools and integrate them into everyday work. The company moves at the pace of AI, with rapid change and evolution in day-to-day responsibilities. This role requires comfort with experimentation, adaptation, and continuous learning.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years in customer-facing technical roles such as solutions engineering, sales engineering, solutions architecture or forward-deployed engineering, ideally at an API, CPaaS, CCaaS or conversational AI company
- Hands-on voice agent experience across the stack: telephony (SIP, WebRTC, PBX or CCaaS integration), orchestration (LLM agent frameworks, tool calling, real-time streaming pipelines) and models (STT, TTS, LLMs)
- Demonstrated ability to build and ship: demos, POCs or production integrations in Python, Node.js or similar languages (portfolio required)
- Track record in revenue-tied roles with measurement on technical wins, pipeline or quota, consistently hitting targets
- Ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise deals with platform engineers, CX executives and other stakeholders
- Clear communication skills: ability to walk engineers through SIP call flows and executives through cost-per-minute business cases in the same meeting
NICE TO HAVE:
- Voice agents built on frameworks or platforms like Pipecat, LiveKit, Vapi, Retell or OpenAI Realtime
- Contact center domain experience (Genesys, NICE, Five9, Amazon Connect, Talkdesk or similar)
- Experience carrying an individual or overlay quota
- Hands-on work with MCP servers, agent harnesses or CLI tools, or open-source contributions with real adoption
- Familiarity with Challenger or similar sales methodology
- Experience selling across both self-serve and enterprise motions
