Dave is a fintech platform serving financially vulnerable Americans with affordable credit products, including ExtraCash (short-term loans up to $500) and a Buy Now Pay Later offering. The company's proprietary underwriting engine, CashAI, powers all credit decisions and is central to its competitive advantage.
As Staff Product Manager for Credit Underwriting, you will own the underwriting strategy, roadmap, and models across Dave's credit product portfolio. You'll report to the Director of Product Management and set the strategic direction that product managers, data scientists, risk teams, and engineers execute against.
Key responsibilities include: developing and executing a multi-quarter underwriting strategy to expand credit access; partnering with Data Science and Engineering to design and scale a unified multi-product underwriting platform; identifying and integrating new credit signals beyond traditional bank data to strengthen CashAI; owning critical KPIs (take rate, loss rate, disbursement volume, retention) and managing business trade-offs; leading rigorous experimentation on underwriting changes from hypothesis through rollout; mentoring other product managers on credit domain expertise; and identifying new underwriting-driven growth opportunities including products, partnerships, or data sources.
Your decisions directly impact whether members gain access to needed capital and whether Dave makes sound credit decisions. You'll balance scaling credit access to millions with prudent risk management—work central to both the company's mission and financial performance.
Required qualifications: 8+ years in product or credit risk management, with 5+ years focused on credit, underwriting, or risk in consumer lending, fintech, or banking. Deep hands-on experience with underwriting models and decisioning strategy, including cash-flow-based or alternative-data approaches. Proven ability to set multi-quarter/multi-year underwriting strategies executed by other teams. Strong quantitative and statistical fluency for partnering with data scientists on model design and validation. Track record navigating regulatory and compliance requirements for consumer credit. Executive-level communication skills for presenting strategy and risk trade-offs to senior leadership. Business-owner mindset with urgency to test, validate, and ship improvements rigorously. Demonstrated ability using AI tools for underwriting analysis and decision-making. Bachelor's degree in quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Finance, Computer Science) or equivalent.
Nice-to-have: BNPL, installment, or card product underwriting experience; prior credit risk, data science, or actuarial background; experience mentoring product managers; familiarity with Dave's products or similar cash-advance and subscription lending models.
