January is transforming consumer debt collections from a crisis-driven emergency room model into proactive primary care. The company has serviced over $20 billion in debt across 20+ million consumers and achieves 50% higher customer satisfaction ratings than traditional banks while delivering 30% better net recovery for creditors. You'll own one of the highest-leverage product surfaces: how the company reaches consumers, communicates with them, and builds trust to turn missed payments into fresh starts. The role involves setting strategy, running experiments to validate what works, and building systems that enable the team to make good decisions independently. Two teams are hiring: one owns the LLM infrastructure powering all consumer conversations (chatbot, voice, email, SMS), pushing toward real-time adaptive borrowing experiences. The other owns the communication systems sending millions of messages hourly plus the experimentation engine optimizing what to say and when without human intervention. Both roles report directly to the Founder/CEO and carry significant ownership to establish new standards in the industry. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of product management experience, with a track record of owning product strategy end-to-end that moved real metrics. You decompose problems to root causes, decide with incomplete information, hold high bars for quality, and reason from data and experimentation. You're comfortable in high-stakes systems where legal, ethical, and financial constraints sharpen rather than limit creativity. You already use LLM tooling deeply in your work and want to push further than most companies allow. You thrive in decentralized, fast-moving environments that prioritize speed, candor, and writing over meetings. The company operates in-person at least three days weekly from their Nolita office, believing that face time builds trust and makes work more enjoyable. They've built a strong engineering team where new hires have doubled key model effectiveness in their first week.
