Wander is a Series B travel-tech company building WanderOS, an operating system for vacation rental property managers. The platform includes direct booking websites, guest messaging, pricing, payments, distribution, and AI agents—all shipping at high velocity.
As Staff Product Designer (L7), you will define design strategy across multiple product pillars of WanderOS, own the most complex systems in the product, and shape how the entire design function operates. You report directly to the Chief Product Officer and work closely with Product, Engineering, and the founder.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead design projects of significant scope and complexity across WanderOS, spanning creative vision, strategy, and execution
- Define design direction across multiple product areas: operator onboarding, calendar and reservations, pricing, guest communication, payments, distribution, and reporting
- Untangle complex systems and turn them into simple, fast, obvious interfaces that property managers rely on to run their businesses
- Define how AI agents appear inside WanderOS: autonomous actions, operator supervision, and trust-building
- Own the WanderOS design system as a product: patterns, components, tokens, and governance to enable consistent, fast shipping
- Anchor design in cross-functional teams, improve tools and processes, and optimize for impact, velocity, and quality
- Mentor and guide other designers, run critique, identify skill gaps, and partner with the CPO on design function scaling
- Conduct ongoing research with operators, synthesize insights, and bring them into the roadmap
- Prototype fast, test with real operators, and ship—learning in a week rather than debating for a month
- Focus on outcomes: activation, adoption, retention, and revenue
The role is remote across the US and Canada, with optional offices in Austin, TX and San Francisco (Presidio).
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10 to 13+ years of product design experience shipping software products
- Proven track record defining design strategy across multiple product pillars or complex systems (not single surfaces)
- Experience building, scaling, or materially shaping a design system that an organization adopted
- Deep technical understanding of how designs get built; bonus if you have built something in code (side project, prototype, or product)
- Strong command of product strategy and business needs, with a wide range of UX tactics to achieve user-centered outcomes
- Systems thinking: ability to see how pieces fit together and how operator actions play out over weeks and months
- Ability to interpret experiments and quantitative data to inform decisions; judgment on when to trust numbers vs. talk to operators
- Practiced communicator and storyteller who can defend design rationale to executives, engineers, and founders
- Leadership through influence and ambition, not authority; track record of mentoring designers and raising team bar
- Enthusiasm for using AI to change product design and how operators work
- Deep mastery of Figma and modern prototyping tools; fast adoption of new tools
- High bar, fast execution, shipping mindset
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
- Designing AI-powered products or agentic workflows for business users
- Background in travel, hospitality, vacation rentals, property management, or operational SaaS
- Experience with data-heavy interfaces: dashboards, pricing tools, calendars, financial products
- Mobile-first design and strong knowledge of native app and mobile web patterns
