Quizlet is a $1B+ learning platform used by two-thirds of U.S. high school students and half of college students, powering over 1 billion learning interactions each week. The company blends cognitive science with machine learning to personalize and enhance the learning experience for students, professionals, and lifelong learners. You will own end-to-end design of large, complex, multi-feature projects across the new-learner journey: sign up, onboarding, personalization, first study session, and early habit loops. Your work will be measured by clear outcomes like activation rate, early retention, and time to first value. You'll take ownership of projects and deliver them independently to a high standard of quality, from discovery through launch and iteration. You will partner closely with designers, product management, and engineering across product and marketing. You'll hold discussions with clear recommendations while remaining open to others' ideas when it leads to better learner outcomes. You'll debate trade-offs openly—such as speed to value versus personalization, or conversion versus long-term engagement—and facilitate agreement on approach so projects move smoothly into implementation. You'll deliver well-crafted solutions to complex problems by evaluating multiple options and trade-offs. You'll use quantitative and qualitative insight (funnel analysis, A/B tests, UX research) to find friction and turn it into opportunities. You'll design and iterate on experiments, then use results to inform the next round of work. You'll apply current industry best practices and emerging technologies, including AI-powered personalization, to raise the bar for the team's work. You'll continually innovate on how you use AI in your design process, elevating the bar for quality experiences delivered with speed. This is a hybrid position in the San Francisco office. To support collaboration, employees are asked to be in the office at least two days a week: Wednesday and Thursday. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex, multi-feature projects - Demonstrated experience designing onboarding, activation, growth, or conversion experiences at consumer scale - Strong interaction and visual design craft, plus systems thinking across web and native mobile - Comfort with data: define success metrics, read funnels and experiment results, and use them to shape decisions - Track record of working independently, proactively resolving issues, and driving alignment across product, engineering, and marketing partners - Clear communication of design rationale, including leading discussions with recommendations and debating trade-offs - Experience giving feedback that raises the quality of peers' work - Balance curiosity and thought leadership around current best practices and emerging technologies, including AI, and how they can make learning more personal - Experience designing for students, education, or younger audiences is a plus, including familiarity with privacy and age-appropriate design
