Relativity Space is building rockets and advanced manufacturing systems to serve commercial and exploration missions. The Tooling and Factory Automation team designs and develops specialized equipment, fixtures, and automated systems that enable production of the Terran R vehicle and Aeon engine. As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design and development of high-quality production tooling and factory automation solutions. Your responsibilities include: - Developing innovative tooling and automation equipment for the Terran vehicle and Aeon engine programs, from concept through production deployment - Designing a wide range of systems including material handling solutions, assembly fixtures, off-loaders, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines - Applying rigorous mechanical design principles and analysis across multiple concurrent projects of varying scale in a fast-paced environment - Creating detailed technical drawings and specifications that meet ASME Y14.5 standards and manufacturing requirements - Collaborating closely with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration teams to optimize for safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, and maintainability - Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers on the team - Participating in design reviews, trade studies, and problem-solving sessions You will work embedded within the manufacturing organization, directly interfacing with factory floor operations and understanding real production constraints. This role offers significant autonomy to propose solutions, make design decisions, and see your work implemented immediately. You'll be part of a team defining how next-generation rockets and factories are built, with the opportunity to shape both the product and the manufacturing process.
