Airwallex is a unified payments and financial platform serving over 250,000 global businesses including Brex, Rippling, Navan, and Qantas. The company operates across 27 offices globally with 2,300+ employees and is valued at $11 billion, backed by leading investors including Sequoia, Visa, and Mastercard. As a Staff GRC Specialist for APAC, you'll serve as a regional anchor for Airwallex's Information Security team, reporting to the Senior GRC Manager. This is a high-autonomy role requiring you to act as the trusted regional contact for government and regulatory bodies in your designated region (Singapore or Shanghai), managing compliance communications and regulatory relationships. Key responsibilities include: acting as the regional hub for security compliance while integrating with the global team; becoming a subject matter expert on regional regulatory requirements and frameworks; managing implementation and monitoring of security controls (PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, SOC2, and region-specific standards); developing and maintaining security documentation, policies, standards, and audit evidence; implementing AI and automation to streamline compliance work; and serving as a trusted advisor to internal teams on security and compliance matters. You'll work largely remotely, coordinating across Information Security, engineering, legal, and enterprise teams on international regulatory compliance, data privacy, risk management, and security governance. The role balances compliance rigor with iterative improvement—viewing security as a challenge to solve rather than a box to check. Ideal candidates have deep knowledge of compliance frameworks and audit processes, strong familiarity with information security concepts and practices, and either a technical background or extensive experience working closely with engineering teams. A background in IT engineering or technology-focused law that transitioned into information security compliance is particularly valued. You should be comfortable with autonomy, project management, and hands-on execution while maintaining strategic perspective.
