You will join the core engineering group as a Staff Frontend Engineer focused on Design Systems and UI architecture. This is a high-impact individual contributor role bridging Design and Engineering, responsible for building and scaling the foundational React-based component library that powers Verkada's enterprise applications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Evolving the centralized design system and component library, ensuring reusability and ease of consumption across product teams
- Partnering with the Product Design team to translate Figma tokens and design visions into pixel-perfect, interactive web components
- Supporting and mentoring 8+ product engineering teams on system adoption and UI best practices
- Championing accessibility (WCAG compliance) across all shared components
- Writing comprehensive automated tests (unit, visual regression) and optimizing UI performance for complex single-page applications
- Maintaining excellent documentation via Storybook and usage guidelines
- Contributing to the broader microfrontend architecture and core frontend tooling
Required qualifications: 4+ years front-end web development experience with strong UI/UX focus. Expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern styling solutions (CSS-in-JS, CSS Modules). Proven track record building or significantly contributing to design systems or component libraries. Deep proficiency with Storybook and component-driven development. Strong practical knowledge of web accessibility standards (ARIA, WCAG). Experience collaborating with designers and understanding design tokens, typography, layout systems, and responsive design. Degree in Computer Science, HCI, or related technical/design field preferred.
