Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer, System Software to join its Australian Engineering group supporting the development of Hivemind autonomy software and integrated defense systems. In this role, you will own end-to-end system requirements capture for Hivemind Vision Systems and autonomy solutions, working across perception, autonomy, and mission-level workflows. You will use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools to document, maintain, and extend architecture models, developing and maintaining models using UML, SysML, and UPDM with emphasis on system decomposition, functional flows, interfaces, and system behavior. You will collaborate with subject-matter experts to improve tooling, automation, and connections between system models and codebases, while supporting the evolution of systems engineering processes across the organization. Cross-functional engagement with product management, program management, engineering, and business development teams is essential, as is reporting status, risks, and accomplishments to senior leadership.
Required qualifications include a minimum of 7 years of systems engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Systems, Software, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering), or equivalent with advanced degrees. You must have demonstrated expertise in systems engineering practices including requirements writing, structuring, and verification; MBSE and system-modeling workflows; and cross-functional technical collaboration. Strong written and verbal communication skills, meticulous organization, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation are essential. A track record of integrity, high standards, teamwork, and professionalism is required. Background clearance is required for this defense-tech role.
