Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer, Quality Assurance to join its defense-tech team in Melbourne. You will lead software quality assurance and testing activities across the full software development lifecycle, including test case development and execution, regression testing, automated test implementation, and performance verification. Your responsibilities include preparing test environments (hardware setup, device flashing, software installation), conducting integration and operational testing on flights around Melbourne, and documenting all testing activities and release approval matrices.
You will work to agreed schedules, communicate delays early to the Director of Engineering, and collaborate with software engineers to improve design, testing processes, and overall software quality. This role involves hands-on technical work with cross-platform systems (Windows and Linux), fault tracking, and Agile methodologies. The position offers exposure to cutting-edge autonomous systems, including Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation technologies that support defense operations globally.
Required qualifications include a tertiary degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent), cross-platform testing experience, proficiency in test environment setup and OS management, ability to solve complex software problems independently or collaboratively, experience in Agile environments, and strong fault tracking knowledge. Preferred qualifications include ISTQB accreditation, automated testing tools experience, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing, and real-time embedded software validation experience.
