Shield AI is seeking a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design and development of flight-critical power systems for the V-BAT autonomous aircraft platform. This role combines individual technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, requiring ownership of power electronics design across high-voltage and low-voltage systems, including inverters, DC-DC converters, battery management systems, and related power electronics.
You will own the complete hardware development lifecycle—from concept and modeling through worst-case analysis, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, design iteration, testing, and validation. Key responsibilities include driving PCB layout and design optimization for power density, EMI, thermal performance, and manufacturability in collaboration with ECAD engineers. You will lead design reviews, mentor junior electrical engineers, and provide technical feedback across the electrical engineering and cross-functional teams.
The role demands expertise in circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, circuit testing, and debugging. You will work closely with mechanical, CAD, embedded, software, supply chain, test automation, and production teams throughout the product lifecycle. Design for safety, manufacturability, and reliability is paramount, particularly given the mission-critical nature of autonomous flight systems.
Required qualifications include a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), 6+ years of power electronics engineering experience, and a demonstrated track record of shipping multiple products through complete development cycles. You must demonstrate extreme ownership, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to navigate obstacles in fast-paced environments while delivering high-quality solutions on schedule. Experience leading cross-functional teams and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement is essential.
