Robinhood's Investment Strategy team is seeking a Staff Data Scientist (Quantitative Researcher) to report to the Chief Investment Officer and drive the development of sophisticated portfolio management solutions. This role sits at the intersection of markets, product, and customer experience, combining rigorous investment thinking with mobile-first product design to democratize access to institutional-grade investment advice. You will build and refine complex portfolio construction factor models, identify critical areas for methodology improvement, and design high-performing investment solutions. Key responsibilities include partnering with investment leadership to develop and maintain quantitative models; working with large datasets and unconventional data sources to predict and test statistical market patterns; backtesting and implementing financial models and signals in live trading environments; and researching emerging quantitative finance principles and techniques. You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Legal teams to launch products and bring them to millions of customers. You'll also assist with regulatory reviews to develop written policies and procedures when new features or methodology changes are introduced. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of quantitative research, portfolio construction, or machine learning experience, ideally in asset management, broker-dealer, RIA, or financial services. You should have demonstrated success taking machine learning models and quantitative signals into production environments. Strong proficiency in Python and SQL is essential, along with deep grounding in statistics, machine learning algorithms, and pattern recognition. Exceptional communication skills—translating complex concepts for engineering, product, and compliance partners—are critical. You thrive with ambiguity, take high personal ownership, and can work independently to deliver on business milestones. Robinhood offers competitive compensation with performance-driven bonuses, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching. Benefits include 100% paid health insurance for employees (90% for dependents), access to premium AI tools, continuous learning opportunities, lifestyle wallet for wellness and development, employer-paid life and disability insurance, fertility and mental health benefits, generous time off, and an exceptional office experience with catered meals and events. The role is based in New York with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.
