Tilt is a fintech company building mobile-first credit products powered by machine learning. NIRA, their India-based consumer credit platform, serves ~200 million underserved people across 5,000+ cities, processing 15,000+ loan applications daily. You'll join as Staff Data Scientist to expand credit modeling and risk analytics capabilities.
In this high-impact role, you'll build and refine underwriting models and other predictive systems at the intersection of credit, data science, and leadership. You'll work with a lean, growing team applying advanced modeling techniques to predict loss performance, leverage alternative data sources, and build tools that shape credit access for millions. Your work will have direct exposure to leadership and will shape both near-term lending performance and long-term data infrastructure.
You'll partner directly with cross-functional teams across credit, engineering, and leadership, bringing strong project and stakeholder management skills. You'll work with alternative data where underwriting processes and modeling reflect market maturity, and help NIRA execute a turnaround in unit economics as it aims to become India's largest fintech.
Required: 7+ years of deep expertise in predictive modeling, ideally in credit risk or actuarial settings. Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and ML libraries (scikit-learn, LightGBM, XGBoost). Familiarity with AI tools (Claude, Codex, agentic workflows). Experience building models end-to-end and owning projects. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, especially presenting complex findings to non-technical leadership. Comfort in high-growth, ambiguous environments with lean teams.
Nice-to-haves: Fintech or credit/lending experience, knowledge of legacy credit systems and modernization, funnel management and reject-rule innovation, exposure to India's credit markets, experience across loan lifecycle, deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
