Vercel is seeking a Staff Data Platform Engineer to lead the design and development of the Finance Data Platform—the foundational system powering revenue reporting, consumption-based billing, financial forecasting, and compliance across the organization. Reporting to the Senior Director of Data Engineering, you will define the technical vision for Vercel's financial data ecosystem. You'll partner closely with Finance, Accounting, and Revenue Operations leadership to translate business and compliance requirements into scalable, auditable systems using modern technologies including Kafka, ClickHouse, Tinybird, and Snowflake. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and implementing data platforms supporting revenue recognition, consumption-based billing, and financial reporting across batch and real-time workloads - Collaborating with FP&A, Accounting, and RevOps to understand reporting requirements, close-cycle timelines, and forecasting needs - Defining guidelines for financial data ingestion, transformation, and storage with focus on auditability, lineage, and data integrity - Developing end-to-end solutions across the finance data stack and mentoring engineers on technical excellence in high-accountability domains - Partnering with Security, Compliance, Legal, and Internal Audit to ensure pipelines meet SOX, SOC 2, and regulatory requirements - Driving architectural decisions and roadmap planning balancing efficiency, scalability, and correctness requirements - Building infrastructure translating raw usage into revenue and supporting forecasting models for target-setting and reporting - Acting as key decision-maker for data architectures and technologies critical to financial operations You'll write production-grade code, set standards for data accuracy and governance, and mentor a growing team of engineers. This role requires deep expertise in financial-grade data systems where correctness is non-negotiable.
