Webflow is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to own and drive key initiatives across Data Platform Engineering. This is a remote-first, full-time permanent role reporting to the Manager of Data Engineering.
In this role, you will design and build reliable data solutions across batch, streaming, and real-time workloads using Spark, Kafka, Iceberg, and Airflow/MWAA. You'll contribute to the evolution of Webflow's data lake and platform, including ingestion, processing, storage, and serving patterns. You'll build, maintain, and scale cloud data infrastructure (Kafka, Airflow, Druid, EMR on EKS) with a focus on reliability and observability.
Key responsibilities include implementing and improving data quality, observability, reliability, and governance across pipelines and systems; defining standards for event instrumentation and governance including event schemas and validation; building platform solutions for centralized PII handling, data retention, deletion, and residency to support GDPR and CCPA compliance; and embedding data engineering standards into AI-assisted development workflows.
You'll contribute hands-on to complex technical initiatives, troubleshoot production issues, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Analytics Engineering and other teams.
Required qualifications: BA/BS degree or equivalent; 5+ years of data engineering experience building and operating production data pipelines and platforms; strong experience with Spark and distributed data processing; experience designing batch, real-time, and streaming solutions using Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming, and CDC; experience implementing data quality and observability; cloud data infrastructure and CI/CD expertise; demonstrated ability to lead complex data engineering initiatives end-to-end; strong programming and SQL skills.
You should be comfortable navigating ambiguous problems, evaluating architectural tradeoffs, and thinking beyond individual pipelines to the end-to-end data ecosystem. Experience with data governance, privacy, PII management, event instrumentation, and emerging AI technologies is valued.
