MoonPay is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and evolution of its data platform, which powers analytics, product insights, integrations, and machine learning across the organization. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll operate at the intersection of architecture, implementation, and cross-team influence. You will set and evolve the technical direction of the data platform across streaming, batch processing, warehousing, orchestration, governance, and ML enablement. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading the design and delivery of complex, cross-team initiatives from architectural decisions through implementation; designing and building core platform capabilities including reliable real-time pipelines, shared tooling, reusable frameworks, and scalable infrastructure; establishing golden paths that enable teams to build securely and efficiently; and improving platform reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency as data volumes grow. You'll partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure systems meet operational and regulatory requirements in a multi-jurisdictional, regulated environment. You'll identify systemic risks, reduce unnecessary complexity, and guide pragmatic improvements. You'll strengthen engineering standards across data modeling, pipeline design, observability, testing, and infrastructure as code, while mentoring senior engineers and raising technical capability through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration. The tech stack includes GCP, Pub/Sub, Kafka, Apache Beam, Bigtable, Redis, Kubernetes, Airflow, BigQuery, Terraform, Python, and SQL. You'll work with real-time and batch processing, data governance, quality, and observability. You're a systems thinker with significant experience designing and scaling data platforms used by multiple teams. You have deep knowledge of real-time and event-driven architectures, a track record of leading complex technical initiatives spanning multiple teams, and experience building platform capabilities and shared services. You value pragmatic solutions, strong engineering foundations, and quality outcomes. You can move confidently between high-level architectural decisions and hands-on implementation, influence engineers and stakeholders around technical standards, and communicate complex decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience in regulated environments is valued.
