Shield AI is seeking a Staff C++ Build and Release Engineer to own the complete build and release lifecycle for autonomy and vision products—from source code through build, test, packaging, and deployment. You will architect and evolve containerized CI/CD pipelines across multiple isolated environments, emphasizing speed, determinism, repeatability, and promotion workflows. Key responsibilities include building and maintaining container images for edge deployment, managing JFrog/Artifactory repositories for multi-language artifacts, and improving versioning, retention, and promotion practices. You'll strengthen dependency and build reproducibility for C++, reducing "works on my machine" issues and pipeline flakiness. The role involves validating and deploying autonomy and vision-system products, tools, and libraries with a focus on edge delivery and reliability. You'll collaborate closely with software engineers and system administrators to ensure integration and stability across real deployment environments, tackling complex problems that directly support mission outcomes.
Required qualifications include strong, hands-on experience delivering modern C++ software in production; demonstrated ownership of build systems, toolchains, and dependency management (Conan, CMake, Nix, Ninja, Artifactory); significant recent experience running CI/CD for compiled software and maintaining engineering systems (pipelines, runners/agents, artifact stores, promotion gates); and substantial experience with Docker/Podman and containerized workflows. You must have a strong understanding of Linux/Unix systems, debugging and troubleshooting skills, and background in air-gapped or isolated DevOps environments. Experience supporting Python deployment and distribution for tooling around the C++ core is valued.

This role is headquartered in Port Melbourne and is not a cloud-first DevOps role but rather focused on C++ build and release engineering for edge delivery.
