Snorkel AI is a frontier AI data lab founded out of Stanford in 2019, helping teams build datasets, benchmarks, and evaluations for high-performing AI systems. The company works with leading AI labs and enterprises to move from better data to better outcomes.
You'll join the Marketing team as Staff Brand Designer, owning the evolution of Snorkel's brand identity. The company has grown faster than its visual identity, and this role closes that gap by defining the next generation of the brand system and ensuring consistency across all surfaces—from the website to NeurIPS booths to benchmark leaderboards.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with real autonomy and leverage. You'll be hands-on in design work while also managing an external design agency and freelance contractor bench, setting creative direction, reviewing deliverables, and maintaining quality standards. You report to the CMO.
Key responsibilities include: leading the evolution of Snorkel's visual identity (logo system, typography, color, illustration, iconography, data visualization, motion, photography); building and maintaining brand guidelines, Figma libraries, and design artifacts that enable other teams to produce on-brand work independently; managing the design agency and contractor relationships, including briefs, creative direction, reviews, scope, timelines, and budget; designing high-visibility launches (funding announcements, research releases, Frontier Data Summit, NeurIPS presence); developing a distinctive visual language for technical content (benchmarks, charts, diagrams, papers, leaderboards, research blogs); partnering with web, content, and product marketing to maintain brand coherence across all surfaces; and establishing design operating models, intake processes, and AI-assisted workflows.
You're drawn to technical subject matter and see explaining complex ideas visually as a core design challenge. You move fast, own outcomes, and raise the standard of everyone around you. You can defend your design opinions to founders and researchers while remaining flexible as the brand evolves in a dynamic AI space.
Requirements: 8+ years of brand or visual design experience, including in-house brand design at a high-growth technology company. A portfolio demonstrating identity or rebrand work led end-to-end, with applications across web, campaigns, events, videos, and data visualization. Proven experience directing external design agencies and freelancers, including writing briefs, managing scope and budget, and maintaining quality standards. Expert craft in typography, layout, color, and composition, with a clear point of view on brand design for AI. Deep fluency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, with experience building scalable design systems and brand guidelines. Track record leading ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives, influencing senior stakeholders, and making autonomous decisions. Comfort translating technical and research content into clear, compelling visuals.
Bonus: Experience at an AI, developer tools, or research-driven company. Hands-on use of generative AI tools in design workflow. Motion design, 3D, or creative coding skills.
