Salary: USD 239,400 - 322,500 / annual
Recursion Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Staff AI Researcher to join its cross-functional team pioneering AI-native drug discovery. You will work at the forefront of AI-powered drug discovery, advancing frontier research and end-to-end applications across discovery, design, and translation.
The role focuses on developing a unifying biomedical world model by bridging virtual patient and virtual cell concepts, and turning real-world data into a discovery engine to close the loop between clinical care and drug discovery. You will collaborate with top-notch scientists, engineers, and drug hunters in a lean startup-like environment featuring frontier research, industrialized wet and dry labs, and rapid iteration cycles.
Recursion operates one of the largest AI compute clusters in biopharma and has pioneered industrial-scale phenomics for perturbation data generation at cellular resolution. The company is a clinical-stage TechBio company (NASDAQ: RXRX) committed to decoding biology to radically improve lives and democratizing precision health globally.
Required qualifications include a PhD in ML, NLP, computer vision, or equivalent practical experience, with 7+ years of frontier AI research experience. You should have strong verbal and written communication skills, experience with large datasets and cross-functional AI projects, and passion for real-world applications and impact. Experience in biomedicine and drug discovery is a plus; willingness to learn is essential.
This is a fully remote position available anywhere across the United States. Compensation is competitive and location-adjusted, ranging from $239,400–$281,700 annually for most US locations, with higher ranges for NYC/Boston ($263,340–$309,870) and San Francisco ($274,100–$322,500). The role includes annual bonus, equity compensation, and comprehensive benefits.
