Carrot Fertility is seeking a Senior Manager of Data Engineering to lead the Business Intelligence data engineering function as it scales. This is a senior player-coach role combining strategic leadership, technical excellence, and hands-on contribution.
You will own the technical vision and roadmap for BI data engineering, aligning it with company strategy and analytics needs. You'll design, build, and review scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and workflow orchestration systems, contributing production code in Python and SQL. You'll architect and optimize data warehouse models supporting advanced analytics, self-service BI, and operational reporting.
Key responsibilities include establishing standards for reliability, observability, testing, and performance across data systems; driving improvements in data quality, lineage, and governance; and partnering with backend product engineering teams to co-design production database schemas with analytics in mind.
You will lead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and ownership. You'll own team-level planning and execution, including capacity planning, prioritization, and delivery across concurrent workstreams. You'll translate ambiguous business and analytics needs into a clear, prioritized engineering roadmap with measurable outcomes.
Cross-functional partnership is critical: you'll work closely with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Security, and Legal to align priorities, ensure compliance, and remove blockers. You'll evaluate build vs. buy decisions, influence vendor selection, and guide tool adoption across data platforms, ingestion, and transformation.
Success in the first 12–18 months means elevating the maturity and consistency of data engineering practices, building and retaining a high-performing team recognized as a trusted partner, delivering a prioritized roadmap aligned with company strategy, and strengthening the accuracy, recency, and security of enterprise data.
