DELFI Diagnostics is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Assay Development team. The company is developing next-generation, blood-based cancer detection tests using advanced machine-learning methods applied to whole-genome sequencing data. The DELFI platform leverages fragmentomics—the analysis of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragment patterns—to identify cancer signatures with high sensitivity and specificity. FirstLook Lung, the company's first laboratory-developed screening test, uses millions of data points to reliably identify individuals who may have lung cancer, achieving a 99.8% negative predictive value.
In this role, you will work at the intersection of machine learning, genomics, and clinical diagnostics. You will develop and optimize assay algorithms, analyze sequencing data to refine cancer detection models, and collaborate with wet-lab scientists, bioinformaticians, and clinical teams to translate research into validated diagnostic tests. Responsibilities include building statistical models, validating assay performance, interpreting complex genomic datasets, and contributing to regulatory submissions and clinical validation studies.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, and ideally experience with genomic or sequencing data. You should be comfortable working in a regulated environment (clinical diagnostics, FDA submissions) and have a track record of translating data science into real-world impact. This is a high-impact role at a well-funded healthtech company pursuing a mission to democratize early cancer detection globally.
DELFI operates on a hybrid model with 1-2 designated in-office days per week for employees within 50 miles of Palo Alto.
