Kraken, a leading crypto platform founded in 2011 with over 10 million users globally, seeks a Senior Counsel to join its Regulatory Legal team. This fully remote role, based in the UK or EU, will own significant business-as-usual regulatory work, freeing senior lawyers to focus on strategic licensing and complex transactions.
You will operate as a practical legal generalist supporting Kraken's EU and UK product offerings and licensed entities. Key responsibilities include:
• Provide legal advice on cryptoasset, e-money, and payment services regulatory requirements under MiCA (EU) and the UK Cryptoasset Regime, including account-access obligations and operational compliance questions
• Support active licensing applications and in-flight EU/UK licensing workstreams, including compiling application materials and coordinating with outside counsel
• Advise on regulatory aspects of corporate transactions and structural changes affecting EU/UK entities (e.g., change-of-control notifications, client migrations)
• Maintain day-to-day regulator relationships for licensed entities, managing notifications, information requests, and supervisory correspondence with authorities like the CBI and FCA
• Translate complex regulatory frameworks (MiCA, UK Cryptoasset Regime, CBI/FCA rulebooks, AML/CTF, DORA, outsourcing requirements, e-money and payment services regulation) into pragmatic, actionable guidance
• Foster clear communication and decision-ready recommendations with measurable risk tradeoffs
Required qualifications: Qualified lawyer (Solicitor/Barrister of England & Wales, Irish equivalent, or EU Member State admission) with 10+ years post-qualification experience in financial services regulatory law, gained at regulated institutions or law firms. You must have direct experience supporting regulator engagement, substantive experience with MiCA or UK Cryptoasset Regime, e-money and payment services regulation, AML/CTF compliance, and outsourcing/operational resilience frameworks. Outstanding analytical and drafting skills with plain-English communication are essential. You should be pragmatic, commercially accountable, and comfortable operating autonomously with a broad, fast-moving workload.
