Velo3D is seeking a Senior Controller to lead all corporate accounting functions and drive operational finance excellence. This is a director-level role reporting to the CFO, responsible for building and managing a high-performing accounting team while overseeing the complete financial operations of the company.
Key responsibilities span four core areas:
**Accounting Leadership & Compliance**: Lead general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll accounting, revenue recognition, and monthly/quarterly/annual close processes. Ensure U.S. GAAP compliance, manage external audits and tax relationships, own financial statement preparation and consolidations, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting governance.
**Operational Finance & Process Management**: Oversee the end-to-end purchase order lifecycle and procurement workflows. Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to improve vendor onboarding, inventory management (valuation, cycle counts, reconciliations, reserves), and cost of goods sold reporting. Identify automation opportunities across purchasing, receiving, and inventory functions.
**Financial Strategy & Business Partnership**: Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning. Provide variance analysis and financial insights to support executive decision-making. Identify cost-efficiency opportunities and support strategic planning and scenario modeling with the CFO.
**Systems & Team Leadership**: Lead modernization of financial systems including ERP platforms, inventory modules, and procurement tools. Drive continuous improvement to shorten close timelines and strengthen process discipline. Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing accounting team, fostering accountability and operational excellence.
**Requirements**
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership of corporate accounting teams
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit environments
- Hands-on ERP experience and track record of process improvement
- Ability to lead teams through growth, change, and system implementations
- Strong analytical, communication, and executive-level presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience leading close processes and supporting external audits
Preferred:
- MBA or other advanced business degree
- Experience with procurement, inventory, supply chain, and fulfillment workflows
- Experience with NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP platforms
- Experience in a public company or pre-IPO environment
