Salary: USD 183,000 - 209,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks an experienced Spacecraft Structures Analyst with opto-mechanical focus to join their Silicon Valley team. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose.
You will own the full lifecycle of spacecraft and optical payload structures, from conceptual design through detailed finite element modeling to test support and validation. Key responsibilities include:
• Perform linear and nonlinear static analysis, modal analysis, frequency response, and random vibration analysis using tools like FEMAP and ANSYS
• Conduct model correlation to test data and root cause analysis
• Define dynamic environments and coupled loads analysis
• Scope structural test plans and author comprehensive test reports
• Execute and analyze system-level and component vibration, shock, and mechanical tests
• Establish engineering standards and mechanical validation approaches for the growing team
• Balance risk posture with cost-effectiveness, informing make-vs-buy decisions and design trades
• Create quick-turn concepts and models to support early-phase program discussions
• Mentor and guide team members as the organization scales
You bring extensive aerospace structures experience as an individual contributor, with deep expertise in FEA, structural testing, and dynamics. You're comfortable with breadth—moving fluidly between analysis, test coordination, supplier interaction, and risk assessment. You code in Python, MATLAB, Julia, C/C++, or similar. You have exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking, and communication skills. Experience with opto-mechanical systems, force limiting, spacecraft/instrument design, and electronic instrumentation is valued. Occasional travel to test facilities is required.
