Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing vehicles, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The Spacecraft Electronics Systems Engineer II oversees the design, integration, and testing of avionics systems for Varda's Winnebago spacecraft, ensuring all systems are mission-ready for launch, on-orbit operations, and hypersonic reentry.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams to define project scopes and guide designs from concept through production; developing electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, and mass predictions; analyzing system architecture for faults and risks, developing mitigation plans and FDIR strategies; conducting comprehensive verification and validation testing on flight and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) systems; participating in mission operations as an avionics specialist to assess system health and support reentry commit decisions; overseeing avionics integration as the primary point of contact for integrated systems investigations; designing, building, and operating HITL testbeds that simulate spacecraft behavior on the ground; developing avionics ground infrastructure, test racks, and R&D equipment; and mentoring junior engineers while fostering continuous improvement.
The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field, plus 3+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation. Proficiency in programming is essential. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of avionics system design, manufacturing processes, and operational protocols, with the ability to navigate conflicting requirements and collaborate across engineering disciplines. Experience with spacecraft systems, fault analysis, or hardware-in-the-loop testing is highly valued.
