Formance builds open-source financial infrastructure centered on a programmable double-entry ledger used by fintechs, crypto platforms, and financial institutions to track money movement and maintain accurate balances. You will join a small Solutions Engineering team in New York (SoHo office, hybrid 3 days/week onsite) working closely with founders, the NYC sales team, and engineers in Paris. In this role, you will serve as a technical bridge between Formance and engineering-led customers. Your responsibilities include: - Designing money flows by translating customer product requirements into ledger models, determining account structures, fund movement patterns, and balance query logic for use cases like user wallets, pending vs. settled funds, fees, revenue sharing, refunds, chargebacks, and multi-currency scenarios. - Leading technical sales by partnering with the NYC sales team to conduct discovery and architecture sessions with CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and Heads of Payments. You will build proofs of concept around real customer use cases and clearly explain architectural trade-offs, ledger guarantees, and customer responsibilities. - Building credibility with technical buyers by challenging assumptions, answering complex engineering questions, and helping prospective customers evaluate Formance's fit within their existing infrastructure. - Supporting production transitions by working with the implementation team to ensure smooth handovers, sharing technical context, architectural decisions, and customer requirements. You will remain engaged to resolve complex technical questions as needed. - Bringing field insights back to the product by documenting recurring customer patterns as reference models and examples, and sharing structured feedback with the engineering team. - Supporting customers beyond the initial sale through technical onboarding, implementation guidance, and smooth transitions to ongoing support. You will work with a team of 30+ people, mostly engineers, where correctness and reliability are non-negotiable because systems support real money movement. REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical implementation, ideally in payments, banking, fintech infrastructure, or digital assets. - Strong understanding of how money is tracked in software, including practical knowledge of double-entry accounting or experience with systems where balances, transactions, and reconciliation are critical. - Familiarity with real payment flows, including settlement delays, returns, partial failures, and mismatches between internal records and external providers. - Hands-on technical experience with APIs, databases, and at least one programming language. - Confidence leading technical conversations with engineering leaders, challenging architectural assumptions, and building credibility with highly technical stakeholders. - Ability to explain complex systems clearly to engineering, finance, and product stakeholders, with interest in direct customer engagement. - Independent problem-solving approach; ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly and leverage modern development tools, including AI. STRONG SIGNALS: - Experience building or maintaining a ledger, wallet system, or reconciliation process. - Prior work with a banking-as-a-service provider, card issuer, or core banking system. - Track record supporting technical evaluations, proofs of concept, or architecture discussions with prospective customers. - Transition from a software engineering role into a customer-facing technical position.
