Salary: USD 135,000 - 157,500 / annual
Meridian is an AI operating system for accounting firms that automates the month-end close process—categorization, reconciliation, exception handling, and financial statement preparation. Built on Pilot's platform running in production since 2017, it has closed 199,000 months of books across 8,000+ businesses. The platform sits on top of existing ledgers without migration or lock-in, keeping client data in the firm's environment.
As a Solutions Engineer, you are the accounting and technical authority in every Meridian sales cycle. You will partner with Account Executives on discovery calls with accounting firm stakeholders, run product demos, lead Proof of Concepts using real client data, and support implementation through the first close as a customer.
Your buyers are experienced accountants who will ask detailed questions about deferred revenue schedules, intercompany eliminations, firm-level preferences versus client-level overrides, and review layers. Answering these credibly from real experience is the core of the job.
Key responsibilities:
- Partner with Account Executives across qualification, discovery, demo, evaluation, and close toward shared revenue targets
- Support discovery with firm leadership to understand their close process, capacity constraints, portfolio mix, and existing ledgers/tools
- Run proof of concepts: scope success criteria, configure environments against real client data, execute live closes, and walk teams through results and reasoning
- Own the accounting answer in the room on revenue recognition, multi-entity consolidation, accrual/cash basis, chart of accounts, close cutoffs, and clearing accounts
- Handle technical due diligence on ledger connectivity, integrations, data flows, permissions, configuration, security, and IT questionnaires
- Support implementation rollouts by onboarding client portfolios, configuring firm standards and client-level overrides, and guiding teams through first closes
- Build reusable assets including demo environments, PoC templates, objection handling guidance, and enablement materials
- Bring structured field feedback to Product to inform roadmap priorities
This is an early-stage team where much of the sales structure is still being built. You will have a real hand in shaping how Meridian sells technically. Compensation includes a variable incentive plan tied to Account Executive performance.
Pilot has raised $170M from Sequoia, Index Ventures, Stripe, Bezos Expeditions, and Whale Rock, achieving $1.2B valuation. The company has 3,000+ customers and a seasoned founding team with prior successful exits.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3 to 5 years of public accounting experience in audit, assurance, tax, or client accounting services; must have closed books or reviewed them
- Command of month-end close including categorization, reconciliations, accruals, financial statement preparation, and judgment calls
- Credibility with firm leadership (managing partners, controllers, practice leads)
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, or comparable ledgers, plus working knowledge of surrounding tools
- Clear communication ability to explain technical/accounting concepts to skeptical partners and IT leads
- Structured problem-solving and strong attention to detail
- Comfort with ambiguity, fast-moving products, and building processes as you go
NICE TO HAVE:
- Sales, pre-sales, solutions consulting, or customer-facing implementation experience
- CPA (active or inactive)
- Experience at firms that evaluated or deployed automation/AI in close processes
- Early-stage startup experience
- Experience running onboarding or implementations for accounting software
