Salary: USD 130,000 - 170,000 / annual
iCapital is seeking a Backend Software Engineer at Vice President level to design, build, and operate services powering the iCapital platform. You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and technical partners throughout the development lifecycle. The platform is service-oriented, primarily using Scala, Ruby, and Python, though prior experience with these languages is not required—strong engineering fundamentals and ability to learn new technologies are valued.
Key responsibilities include designing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based services and APIs; translating product and business needs into practical technical solutions; owning projects from design through production rollout and ongoing support; writing maintainable code and contributing to technical design decisions; participating in code reviews and improving engineering standards; building testing, observability, security, and operational readiness into services; and using AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve delivery, investigation, and learning.
Required qualifications: 8+ years experience with a modern programming language (Ruby, Scala, Python, Java, or TypeScript); 5+ years building or integrating with APIs and backend services; knowledge of relational or NoSQL databases and data modeling; familiarity with automated testing, version control, and modern software delivery practices; understanding of cloud application development and distributed systems; strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills; and experience using AI-assisted development tools to plan work, refine specifications, delegate tasks, and validate implementation quality.
Compensation includes base salary of $130,000–$170,000, equity for all full-time employees, annual performance bonus, employer-matched retirement plan, subsidized healthcare (100% employer-paid dental and vision), telemedicine, virtual mental health counseling, parental leave, and unlimited PTO. Work arrangement: in-office Monday–Thursday with remote flexibility on Friday.
