Bitwarden is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its India Engineering Center of Excellence, focusing on Secrets Manager and AI Identity platforms. You will lead development of the dedicated secrets engine, machine-to-machine (M2M) authorization protocols, and developer-focused CLI/SDKs. A key focus is designing core infrastructure for next-generation AI Identity and Access management—securing credentials and API keys against custody risks of autonomous AI agents and headless workloads.
You will operate as a "T-shaped" professional owning services end-to-end: from initial design and secure development through automated testing, deployment, and production operational health. You'll collaborate closely in an "Embedded Trio" (Product, Design, Engineering) to design and ship elegant, secure, resilient code.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain high-performance APIs, SDKs, and CLIs for Secrets Manager and AI Identity frameworks
- Implement secure, zero-knowledge machine authentication, scoped access tokens, and runtime secrets injection gateways protecting credentials from exposure to AI models or local execution environments
- Work within a Decoupled Platform Architecture ensuring Secrets Manager operates as a highly scalable, independent tenant with dedicated data stores and asynchronous event-driven messaging
- Own automated testing, deployment pipelines, and production SRE health; participate in on-call rotations and postmortem analyses
- Build developer-friendly API endpoints, integration libraries, and comprehensive documentation to lower friction in secrets enrollment and machine onboarding
- Proactively threat-model new services, remediate vulnerabilities, and maintain strict audited compliance standards
Required experience: 3-6 years in Software Engineering with strong proficiency in Rust, C#/.NET, or TypeScript. You should have practical experience designing or integrating machine identity platforms, vaulting services, OAuth/OIDC, or token-based authorization. Curiosity or experience with AI agent security, LLM memory isolation, or sandboxed execution is valued. You'll need solid grasp of symmetric/asymmetric encryption, zero-knowledge protocols, and OS-level secure storage APIs. Experience with Docker/Kubernetes, modern APM and SRE logging tools (Azure Monitor, Grafana), and robust automated integration testing is essential. Excellent written communication and passion for open-source software, developer tooling, and internet security are important.
