ServiceNow is seeking a Software Engineer to lead a team building AI-native software on cloud infrastructure. This role combines hands-on software development with people management, requiring expertise in both traditional backend engineering and modern AI/ML systems.
Leadership Responsibilities:
You will manage a team of software and AI engineers, providing mentorship, conducting detailed code reviews (including prompt and agent logic), setting quarterly goals, and evaluating performance. You'll participate in root cause analysis for customer issues, including those stemming from model behavior or data quality, and assist with recruitment and training activities. Regular communication with senior leadership through status updates and weekly reports is expected.
Technical Responsibilities:
Develop AI-native software using cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and their managed AI services. Design technical specifications including model selection, prompt/agent architecture, and data retrieval systems. Build evaluation harnesses for AI features (accuracy, regression, hallucination detection). Implement secure coding practices with AI-specific safeguards (prompt injection defense, PII handling, responsible AI guardrails). Monitor model performance and drift in production. Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and GPU workload deployment is valued.
Required Skills:
- 3–5 years of Java development
- 1–2 years of prompt engineering and agent scripting
- 1–2 years integrating third-party AI/ML services (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
- Proficiency in Python, Java, and JavaScript (strong Python for ML/AI)
- Cloud computing and managed AI services (AWS Bedrock/SageMaker, Azure OpenAI, Google Vertex AI)
- LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex) and vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector)
- RESTful and streaming APIs, microservices architecture
- Unit testing and AI evaluation harnesses
- Agile/Scrum development
You will collaborate with product management, domain specialists, and cross-functional teams to define requirements and build scalable AI-driven solutions. The role emphasizes staying current with AI advancements and proactively identifying opportunities to apply new models, frameworks, and techniques to products and services.
