Beacon AI is building an AI platform to make flying safer, more efficient, and more capable, backed by top investors with a dozen Department of Defense contracts and partnerships with major airlines. The company operates as small, focused teams that own what they build, ship quickly, and learn fast. You will design, build, and deploy robotic and embedded software components for advanced pilot assistance systems that operate in real-world, safety-critical aviation environments. Working closely with senior engineers, you'll contribute hands-on across the stack to deliver reliable systems supporting time-sensitive decision-making for human operators. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, and deploy autonomy, robotics, and embedded systems for flight safety platforms - Develop autonomy-related features from development through deployment, focusing on reliability and performance - Write, test, and maintain production-quality Python and/or C++ code across autonomy, systems, and embedded components - Integrate software with hardware, sensors, and perception pipelines to support autonomous and operator-in-the-loop decision-making - Optimize software for edge compute environments, managing latency and resource usage - Participate in testing, validation, and deployment to ensure systems meet safety-critical requirements - Collaborate in design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on development with cross-functional teams You should have 2+ years of experience designing or building robotic software and/or embedded systems (or equivalent through projects or coursework), production-quality coding skills in C++ and/or Python, and familiarity with real-time systems supporting time-sensitive user decisions. Experience with autonomy systems (planning, decision-making, reasoning), sensor/perception pipelines, and embedded/edge compute platforms is expected. Bonus qualifications include safety-critical or mission-critical systems experience (especially aviation or robotics), exposure to ROS or DDS, interest in human-in-the-loop systems, and background in autonomy or robotics. The role is hybrid based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite.
