Axle Health builds AI-powered scheduling and workforce management software for in-home healthcare providers. The platform helps major healthcare systems (Cityblock Health, U Penn Health System) improve field team utilization by 17%+ through proprietary logistics algorithms, mobile apps for field staff, operations dashboards, patient engagement tools, and integrations. The company is backed by $14M from Y Combinator, Pear VC, and F-Prime.
As Senior User Experience Designer, you will be the design function's core contributor on the product team, reporting to the Head of Product. You own the complete user experience arc from research and discovery through execution and post-launch iteration. This role sits at the intersection of user insight, product strategy, and engineering, making design a visible driver of product quality and business outcomes.
The work is fast-paced and hands-on with high ownership. You will not inherit a mature design system or playbook; instead, you'll design for users in a complex healthcare domain where workflows are genuinely intricate and stakes are real. You'll be embedded in the product team alongside product managers, work directly with engineers and clinical operations stakeholders, lead research, shape product direction, and build systems and processes that make great design repeatable across web and mobile.
Key responsibilities include: rapid design iteration translating product requirements and user feedback into wireframes, flows, and high-fidelity designs; cross-functional partnership as a daily collaborator with PMs and engineers; lightweight user research (interviews, usability checks, feedback synthesis) feeding directly into iterations; multi-platform design execution for web and mobile from concept through final specs; design system stewardship building shared components and patterns; design communication presenting decisions concisely to leadership and partners; engineering collaboration staying embedded during development to catch and resolve issues in real time; and post-launch optimization using analytics and user feedback to prioritize improvements within sprint cycles.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of professional UX design experience with portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership from problem framing through shipped product, including how work evolved based on user and engineering feedback
- Advanced Figma proficiency for wireframing, prototyping, and engineering handoff at speed
- Previous startup experience in early-stage or high-growth environments with compressed timelines and lightweight process
- Workflow product experience designing workflow-heavy B2B tools (scheduling, operations, logistics, or similar) used daily by users
- Proven cross-functional collaboration with direct track record of working alongside PMs and engineers as daily partners
- User research fluency with hands-on experience in interviews, usability tests, and feedback synthesis
- Cross-platform experience across web and mobile with fluency in platform-specific patterns, constraints, and user expectations
NICE TO HAVES:
- AI tool integration experience (Claude design or similar platforms)
- Analytics and experimentation skills (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or similar)
- Technical fluency with working knowledge of HTML/CSS and front-end constraints
- Healthcare or regulated-industry experience with familiarity of designing for clinical or operational users
