Okta is seeking a Staff Product Designer to own the long-term design strategy for Okta Identity Governance, a critical product that helps large enterprises manage access requests, reviews, and compliance at scale. In this role, you will design end-to-end user experiences for multiple personas including IT and security admins, compliance owners, resource owners, approving managers, and end users.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning long-term design strategy across multiple product releases, not just near-term roadmaps
- Partnering with design leadership to define patterns, standards, and quality bars that other designers build upon
- Leading through influence to align product, engineering, research, and content teams around strategic direction
- Designing complex journeys that span the Okta portfolio and serve diverse user personas
- Applying systems-thinking to connect user insights with business goals and security outcomes
- Facilitating co-creation workshops with Product Management and Engineering to frame opportunities
- Mentoring senior designers and supporting their career development
- Presenting concepts to adjacent teams and senior leadership to drive alignment
- Integrating AI thoughtfully into the design process for research, brainstorming, prototyping, and collaboration
You will work on complex, technically challenging projects involving generative and evaluative research, discovery, interaction design, information architecture, and visual design. The role requires moving fluidly between big-picture strategy and detailed execution, creating clarity in ambiguity for cross-functional partners.
This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days per week in office and in-person orientation during the first week of employment in either San Francisco or Chicago.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience as a Product Designer or UX Designer
- Degree in a related field or equivalent relevant work experience
- Proficiency in Figma or similar design tools
- At least basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Digital portfolio demonstrating depth across multiple projects, including shipped work used in real products (portfolio link required)
- Experience leading cross-discipline teams and partnering with PM and Engineering on strategic outcomes
- Strong mentoring and teaching abilities
- Thought leadership in exploring new technologies and design territories
- Expertise in crafting and sharing product and design UX principles
- Ability to integrate AI into design workflows while vetting output for accuracy and usability
- Excellent storytelling and stakeholder communication skills
- Alignment with company values
