Salary: USD 206,000 - 232,000 / annual
Muon Space seeks a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead earth observation satellite programs for U.S. Government customers. You will hold single-point accountability for delivering complex aerospace programs end-to-end—from concept development and design through integration, launch, and on-orbit operations—under formal government contract structures.
As the primary programmatic interface to government customers, you will own the integrated master schedule, cost baseline, and risk register, ensuring all contractual commitments are met on schedule and within budget. You will plan and execute formal program events including internal readiness reviews and customer-facing milestone deliverable reviews, maintaining tight cost and schedule discipline while surfacing deviations with recovery plans.
You will direct a cross-functional engineering team spanning systems engineering, payload, flight software, ground processing, and mission operations. You will drive design trades and study conclusions to closure, escalating decisively when needed, and partner with mission operations teams without disrupting existing missions.
Responsibilities include leading technical exchange meetings with government representatives, converting customer input into actionable program direction, and owning the delivery and quality of all contract data deliverables. You will execute programs in full compliance with government security requirements, including handling of controlled information, ITAR/EAR export controls, and U.S.-only performance requirements. You will also support program growth by converting program artifacts into proposal-ready material and capturing follow-on opportunities.
Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field (or equivalent); 8+ years of program management on complex aerospace/defense development programs with direct ownership of cost, schedule, and technical baselines; proven experience executing U.S. Government contracts (SOW, CDRL deliverables, milestone-based structures); experience leading engineering teams through concept development, trade studies, and preliminary design; exceptional written communication skills.
Preferred: satellite or instrument program leadership across full lifecycle; domain experience with remote sensing systems (EO/IR, RF); direct experience with USSF Space Systems Command or JPL; PMP certification; ability to obtain security clearance.
Position is hybrid, requiring on-site presence in San Jose three days per week.
