AssetWatch is a manufacturing technology company focused on predictive maintenance and condition monitoring for global manufacturers. The company is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to establish and lead the tax and compliance function as it scales internationally.
This is a newly created individual contributor role reporting directly to the VP of Accounting. The Senior Tax Manager will serve as the primary internal owner of tax and compliance activities, working with established external advisors (including BDO) and accounting team support. The role does not currently manage people, though team expansion will be evaluated as the function matures.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Governance: Own U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance; manage sales and use tax filings and registrations; oversee Canadian subsidiary tax compliance in coordination with external advisors; manage indirect tax compliance (VAT, GST, HST, PST); coordinate tax provision support and annual filings; monitor nexus exposure; manage tax notices, audits, and regulatory examinations; develop and maintain tax compliance calendars and governance processes.
International Expansion Support: Partner with Accounting leadership on international expansion strategy; coordinate with external advisors on country-specific tax and regulatory requirements; support entity formation and registrations in new jurisdictions; lead compliance activities for Mexico expansion (import/export, customs); help establish tax framework for future UK and European operations.
Compliance & Risk Management: Develop and implement tax and compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls; identify and assess tax and regulatory risks; recommend mitigation strategies; support external audits and internal control initiatives; maintain documentation supporting tax positions.
Process Improvement & Systems: Drive process improvement and automation for tax and compliance; manage and optimize Taxware as the sales tax calculation and filing platform; partner with Accounting, Revenue Operations, and Finance teams to improve data quality; optimize tax processes within NetSuite; establish reporting and dashboard capabilities.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as primary internal resource for tax and compliance matters; partner with Accounting, Revenue Operations, Legal, HR, Supply Chain, and business leadership; evaluate tax and compliance implications of new business initiatives, customer arrangements, vendor relationships, and international expansion; provide recommendations to senior leadership.
The company currently operates in the United States and Canada, is actively expanding in Mexico, and is preparing for future growth in the UK and European markets. This role will support that multi-jurisdiction growth while coordinating with external advisors so the candidate is not expected to be a solo expert across every jurisdiction.
