Cohere, a leading enterprise AI company building foundation models and end-to-end products for businesses, is seeking a Senior Tax Associate / Tax Manager to manage global indirect tax compliance, strategy, and reporting. Based in San Francisco with a hybrid work arrangement, this role focuses on VAT/GST and sales tax across Canada, the U.S., and other key markets.
You will own end-to-end indirect tax compliance including filings, registrations, and remittances for global VAT/GST and US sales and use tax. Key responsibilities include streamlining tax workflows through automation tools and AI, developing indirect tax strategies aligned with Cohere's business growth and international expansion, managing tax audits and inquiries from authorities, and identifying and mitigating tax risks. You'll also address digital services taxes and electronic services implications, and partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and Product teams to assess tax impacts of new initiatives, contracts, and market entries.
The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of indirect tax experience in multinational environments, a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, and deep knowledge of U.S. and/or Canadian indirect tax laws with familiarity of global indirect tax regimes. Prior experience in technology/SaaS is required, and experience with tax automation software (Vertex, Avalara) is preferred. You should demonstrate strong analytical ability to interpret tax regulations, model scenarios, and communicate findings to stakeholders, plus proven success managing projects in fast-paced, global settings.
