Vanta is hiring a Senior Systems Designer to build the operating system for EPD (Engineering, Product, Design) — the systems, agents, and practices that make these functions unreasonably effective at delivery. This role owns the operating system layer of a three-part infrastructure stack: sources of truth, a shared interpretive layer, and the operating system itself.
You will design and own workflow and hierarchy across engineering, product, and design in Jira, ensuring it reflects real practice while driving real practice to align with the system. You'll build agents and automation yourself, leveraging AI as a core tool. This is not a traditional PMO role; you're building systems that teams want to use, not route around.
Key responsibilities include: designing Jira workflows and hierarchies; building automation and AI-powered agents; driving adoption across teams through conversation, well-built artifacts, and clear instruction; understanding delivery breakdowns at the mechanism level and building root-cause fixes; and mentoring teammates into more technical work.
Success requires recent hands-on shipping experience with AI as part of your toolkit. You find the actual mechanism that's failing before reaching for tools, move toward solutions without waiting for approval, and learn new AI tooling proactively. You drive adoption through influence rather than authority and remain accountable for outcomes, not just artifacts. No CS degree or formal engineering tenure required — real, shipped work is what matters.
