Campus is a Series B edtech company reimagining higher education through a two-year, accredited online college where students learn from top professors at institutions like Princeton and Stanford. The company combines a pioneering technology platform with a research-backed student success model, offering live online classes, dedicated advisors, tutoring, and coaching. Campus was named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2024 and is backed by leading investors including General Catalyst, Founders Fund, Bloomberg Beta, and others. This Senior Staff/Staff Software Engineer role is not tied to a predetermined team or narrow product scope. Instead, the company is intentionally seeking an exceptional engineer to tackle Campus's most important and technically challenging problems. You'll identify what matters most, bring clarity to ambiguous challenges, make excellent technical decisions, and help other engineers do their best work. You might lead technical direction for a critical product area, solve cross-platform problems, build foundational systems that accelerate the rest of engineering, or take company priorities from problem definition through production. This is a highly hands-on role where you'll write and ship code while influencing architecture, technical direction, and engineering practices as the company scales. Potential problem areas include: the core learning platform for students and faculty; student experience products spanning onboarding through graduation; growth systems for prospective student discovery and enrollment; internal platforms and operations technology for a complex, regulated organization; and engineering foundations including architecture, infrastructure, and developer experience. You'll partner closely with product, design, operations, and leadership to determine what to build and how. You'll identify technical investments that create leverage for other teams, raise engineering quality through design and mentorship, make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed and maintainability, and help evolve engineering practices as the team grows. The role emphasizes using modern AI tools to increase your own leverage and shape how Campus builds software in an AI-native development environment.
