Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company building the complete stack from energy generation through AI compute delivery. As Senior Staff Software Engineer for SDN Architecture, you will lead the design and implementation of software-defined networking systems that power Crusoe's AI-first cloud infrastructure.
You will be a senior technical contributor and trusted voice in architecture decisions, partnering with Principal Engineers and leadership to shape the technical direction while owning significant portions of the SDN roadmap. This role combines deep systems engineering expertise with leadership influence—you'll mentor engineers across the stack, conduct architecture reviews, and author design documents for critical networking components.
Key responsibilities include: contributing to SDN technical strategy and roadmap; designing and optimizing Linux kernel modules and high-performance drivers using XDP, eBPF, AF_XDP, and DPDK; implementing network architectures for GPU-to-GPU fabrics and specialized AI clusters; integrating advanced SmartNICs, DPUs, and IPUs; performing deep performance tuning on production systems; evaluating emerging SDN and NFV technologies; and mentoring engineers to build a culture of engineering excellence.
You'll work at the intersection of hardware accelerators and software control planes, collaborating closely with Product, Hardware, and Infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, scalable networking fabric optimized for extreme throughput and low latency that massive GPU clusters demand.
Required: 8+ years building and operating large-scale networking systems in production (cloud or hyperscale data center); strong SDN and NFV experience with systems programming in C, C++, Go, or Rust; deep Linux kernel knowledge including memory management and device drivers; hands-on packet processing experience (XDP, eBPF, AF_XDP, DPDK); familiarity with SmartNICs and accelerators (NVIDIA ConnectX, BlueField, Intel IPUs); experience with network virtualization and data center fabrics (Spine-Leaf, BGP, EVPN, VXLAN); knowledge of SR-IOV and vDPA; strong written communication and collaborative mindset; Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
Bonus: open-source contributions (OVS, OVN, Cilium, Multus); physical network device deployment experience; network automation and orchestration expertise; experience building networking stacks for multi-node GPU training at scale.
