Zocdoc is seeking a Senior Staff Data Platform Engineer to lead the design and evolution of its data infrastructure and analytics systems. In this senior individual contributor role, you will operate as a technical authority without formal management responsibilities, defining platform standards and leading complex cross-domain initiatives that serve hundreds of stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Operations, and Leadership.
Your core responsibilities include architecting and improving data orchestration, monitoring, and reliability systems; defining modeling, semantic layer, and governance standards across teams; optimizing warehouse performance and reducing compute costs; implementing secure access controls and strengthening compliance practices in a regulated healthcare environment; and partnering with Engineering to improve upstream data quality and contracts.
You will mentor engineers, guide architectural decisions, and lead cross-functional initiatives to modernize Zocdoc's data platform. Your work ensures the data ecosystem is secure, reliable, compliant, performant, and cost-efficient—enabling confident decision-making across the organization.
Successful candidates bring 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Backend Software Engineering, with demonstrated Staff-level scope and cross-team technical influence. You should have expert SQL skills, strong proficiency in Python or similar languages, and deep hands-on experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and tools like dbt and orchestration platforms (Airflow, Dagster). Experience optimizing warehouse costs, improving pipeline reliability and observability, implementing secure data access patterns, and working in regulated environments is essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders are critical.
