Zscaler is seeking a Senior Staff Software Development Engineer to join its cloud security platform team in Bangalore. This hybrid role reports to the Director of Software Engineering and focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing high-performance network system architecture and security features for mission-critical applications.
Key responsibilities include architecting and implementing advanced networking solutions, partnering with engineering architects and product managers to translate complex use cases into technical specifications, authoring design documents and driving unit testing and automation for quality assurance, and collaborating across cross-functional teams to resolve system-level issues and optimize data path performance. You will apply advanced software design principles to mentor junior engineers and ensure compliance with federal security certifications.
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of experience in system engineering for high-performance networking, with deep expertise in Linux kernel-based networking (L2/L3), stateful firewalls, NAT, network drivers, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, PIM). Strong proficiency in Go and Python is required, along with hands-on experience with protocols including VLANs, DHCP, DNS, SSL, DTLS, QUIC, IPsec, GRE, and WireGuard. You should demonstrate proven ability to debug complex data path issues and design scalable systems in high-accountability environments.
Preferred qualifications include experience integrating AI/ML frameworks for kernel-level networking optimization, familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and security certifications (FIPS, FedRAMP). A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field is required. The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and thriving in ambiguous, dynamic technical challenges.
